Japan Day 2013 24th Feb 2013
An annual one-day free cultural event which features over 100 exhibits from traditional to modern Japanese culture, tourism, business and more. Many came along to taste Japanese food, experience a tea ceremony, learn calligraphy, watch amazing skills of martial art and much more. There were over 30 artists performing on the stage and for 2013, there was an addition to the event, the "Bon Dance". The "Bon-odori" is a Japanese popular folk dance and is this year's item to close the event.
Similarly, we had something special this year. There was FREE Organic Okara given out (See below for more details). We also had Shaved Ice on Tofu, which proved to be a hit. And of course, we had our summer dish hiyayakko, topped with the rare myoga. Other than the popular tofu tempura, there were also several other tofu dishes made this year, and these were gone swiftly.
We are sure all who attended had a good time, be it rice pounding to origami folding. You would also have enjoyed the performances ranging from taiko to kodomo singing. We look forward to seeing you again in 2014.
Organic Okara おから
- What is Okara?
Soy pulp from the grinding of soybeans
- What to do with it?
Do up a stir-fry dish with chopped carrots and vegetables. Use in soups (korean style). Make patties.
- What's special about Vege Tofu's okara?
It's Organic. And the soybeans are ground once only, leaving much nutrition in the okara still.
